It is getting to that time of the year where everyone and their cat start putting out end of year album lists. Although I won’t be participating in a codified way (too lazy it seems) I do read the lists and desperately note down albums that I may not have paid enough attention to or missed completely. Follow along here if you dare.
Amanecer is one such album by indefinable Colombian band Bomba Estéreo. Eclectic from the start this album zig zags between carnival electronica, anthemic odes to Colombia’s African heritage and moombahton influenced bass. See ‘Soy Yo’ for an atypical banger.
But ‘Mar (Lo Que Siento)’ is an altogether more relaxed track where Bomba Estéreo leave the big beats in the background in favour of beautiful intertwined guitars and Li Saumet’s vocals. If ‘Soy Yo’ is the beach party then ‘Mar (Lo Que Siento)’ is the last track thats played as the sun comes up.
A great antidote to the inevitable winter slump. Playlist it alongside The Very Best.
